Klaus Dobrunz, born in Höxter in 1962, studied visual communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf from 1984 to 1989, followed by four more years
of painting and sculpturing at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. After a stay of several years in Sweden, where he also worked as an art teacher, he lives
since 2004 in Bielefeld.
The work of Klaus Dobrunz is influenced by his sculpturing and painting in equal parts. Both fields complement each other, but each also has an independent meaning. Especially with his wood sculptures the artist speaks an individual and unique language.
The main topic of his paintings and sculptures are people in urban areas. He shows people on the move, whether in crowded pedestrian zones and squares, or waiting at the train station or airport.
In his wood sculptures Klaus Dobrunz shows mainly people with attributes like suitcases, bags, cell phones or plastic bags in their hands. At first view they seem to be individuals, but in the groupings of the installations they are rather anonymous figures of our modern world.
